That model does NOT support fax. It doesn’t even appear to support "PC FAX" where it uses a PCs modem to send a fax.
If your PC has a normal analogue fax/modem you can use the scanning software to aquire the page then "print" it to the fax driver that is normal in windows, which sends it vis the PCs fax modem.
I used Yahoo Search with this phrase:
DCP-585CW
and found this link on Brother’s web site:
http://www.brother-usa.com/MFC/ModelDetail.aspx?ProductID=DCP585CW
And it says
[quote begin]
The DCP-585cw is a compact wireless (802.11b/g) or wired (Ethernet) photo all-in-one that prints, copies and scans.
[quote end]
Nothing on that page says it has fax ability.
If you purchased it from a retailer, the retailer might have misprinted the printer specifications, which misled you to believe the all-in-1 had fax ability. In this situation, you could return the printer, if you bought it online you would then have to pay shipping charges. If you bought it from a walk-in store, see if they will take it back and credit it toward a purchase of an all-in-1 that does have fax ability.

As stu_the_kilted_scot said, you can scan to an image and then print the image to a fax driver.
You still need a fax modem, and here are USB fax modems.
I used Yahoo Search with this phrase
USB fax modem
and got three good links right away:
TrendNet fax modem:

Zoom fax modem:
http://www.amazon.com/Zoom-V-92-USB-Mini-3095/dp/B001FCIOSW
TrendNet is a company that has been around for many years (more than 10) and Zoom is a company that has been around since before 1995 – that’s when I bought one of their internal fax modems.
Various oddball Chinese-made fax modems:
