How To Installing a fax modem Archives

The Vista on this Viao was loaded with tons of crap to market tons of crap. Sony refused to supply XP drivers for this model but they totally have them. When I tried to use a similar model with the exact same hardware devices it would halt and tell me that I am tryiing to install on the wrong model. Finally I went to each manufacturer and got the right XP drivers, except the Conextant HDAUDIO Soft92 Data Fax Modem with Smart CP (on the Realtek audio card). I have found about 6 drivers that all looked promising, but none work. I read a post that said Windows Update would take care of it for me but no go. Tried Conexant and Sony Live chat but no go. Does anyone have a clue how to get this device to work ?
UPDATE: Yes, I’ve check most of the major "Device Driver Dowload" sites and found so many drivers that did not work that I finally gave up and returned the laptop back to my friend without a working modem. Sony support for this fairly new, and under warranty Laptop was not-existant for any operating system but their serialized version of MS Windows Vista Premium which was a piece of Ad filled pop-up nighmare. The were difficult and flatly refused to supply any drivers for XP at all. They kindly referred me to "the manufacturer of the operating system" for the associated drivers and informed me that they would no longer honor the Sony warranty for this new laptop because we installed an Operating
System that we like and is compatible with out current office. I did manage to find all of the other drivers by dismantling the laptop and reading the chip manufacturers name and chip number for each device. Not recommended for anyone ever. Beware the Sony marketing tactics…

This came on a generic modem install disk.I no longer use the modem and really want to get rid of the Fax Talk Communicator. It’s in C program files if that matters. And if you tell me to do it in safe mode you’ll need to remind me how to start in safe mode. Thanks up front.

I bought a graphics card for my eMachines computer (Nvidia GeForce 9400 GT) and after I installed it, my internet stopped working suddenly (I’m at the library right now). I unplugged it to see if that was the problem, but it was still acting the same. I have an Adelphia (Time Warner) surfboard modem, checked the modem and it was fine, lights all on and everything. I even hooked it up to my Xbox 360 to see if it was something with the modem, and I was able to get on Live just fine. Which leads me to believe that the problem is something with the computer.

I went into "Phone and Modem Options" in the Control Panel, and saw that the current modem was "PCI Soft data fax modem with SmartCP". In the "Attached To" column, it said Not Attached. But I am not sure if it was like this before because I never needed to check.

Every time I open up Firefox, every page I attempt to enter says "Page Load Error". Pretty much the same thing with IE and every other browser I use. I turned the firewall on and off just to make sure, and nothing happened.

Usually, when I disconnect the internet cord between my modem and computer, I see an icon in the bottom right panel of the screen with a bubble that pops up saying something to the likes of "Internet disconnected" (can’t remember clearly). When I disconnected it after it stopped working, I never saw that.

Lastly, I went to "Network Connections", I think it is, in the control panel to see what connections might be there. There was nothing in there at all.

It just feels like something doesn’t detect my modem and it’s leaving me confused because I can’t find the source of the problem. What might be the problem and how can I get my internet back to normal?

I installed Dell Classic Phone Tools software. It found the modem etc. Installed successfully..but when I try to send a fax, it won’t go through? It’s not getting a dial tone per message. But I know the number is correct as I called it from my phone. What am I missing?

Hi! I know i can send faxes through efax.
My 1st question:
Is it FREE to send unlimited faxes to anypart of world from EFAX? or are there any limits?

My 2nd questn:
We can send faxes thru XP. Does sending faxes from XP cost any charge?
Do we have to install any fax modem for this or can we manage with ADSL modem or a dialup modem? (pl dont laugh at this silly question)

My 3rd questn:
If i just join my phone line pin to my PC & send any fax to my local place through XP (within city & not long distance) does that cost? Will the local call charges be charged by my telephone operator? If sent to a long distance will the "long distance call charges" will be charged?
Please answer all my questions.

Also answer this:
What is the best way
a) to send faxes within my pace (not long distance)
b) to send faxes to long distance
c) to send FREE faxes

Hope you understand my lengthy questions & i hope you will answer all of my questions
THANKS IN ADVANCE!

I’m trying to install a Agere Win Modem. The Device manager recognizes it, but no matter what I try, it responds that there is no dial tone. It came with a driver disc(no help so far). I’ve searched for HOURS to find a driver that will work with my machine. I have a feeling that this one may come down to experience. I’m a bit of a geek myself so, yes, I’ve checked my connections etc.

Modem Specs(to the best of my knowledge):
Agere V.92 56k Data+Fax Modem Version 8.30
Lucent 1646 chipset(also referred to as Mars)
Current Driver V.8.30

PC Specs:
Dell Optiplex GX260
P4, 3.06GHz
Windows XP Pro / SP2(Updated)

I would like to be able to use the V.92 features especially MOH.
Modemsite.com claims to have drivers as a "Premium"(paid) service, but they’re the only ones I’ve found.
Ask for any details you need & I’ll try to post.
Hey Rocky, some good suggestions but still no dice. Using Hyper-terminal & a local #, it still tells me "no dial-tone" I know that there is, because all I’m doing is switching the phone cord between PCs(I disconnect from ISP each time) Searching net for "no dial tone v.92"(and similar variations)gets tons of results but none helpful. I have software installed but it say I don’t have modem connection when I try to use the fax

Ever since I attempted to install a new graphics card, my computer has been sick. It would blue screen any time I tried to do anything involving video or media play with the modem on. The card didn’t work out, so I un-installed it and put my old one back in. The problems continued, to the point the modem was no longer recognized as being installed. So at this point I changed to a new modem. It is a nexxtech 56k pci internal data fax modem, V.92. I have tried updating the drivers, but the only ones I can find are from 2004.

This is killing me here, as I can’t do much of consequence online. No streaming video, like youtube, no music while i’m online. It even blue screened when I tried to put on duke nukem while the modem was online.

Last week, It decided that all it needed to blue screen was for the internet to run. I stopped having to open music or video to set it off. It just seems to go for the hell of it now…

The thing is, when the modem isn’t connected to the internet, the errors do not occur.

What should I do about this? My computer is pretty well crippled from this BS.
To clarify, My pc is a Dell dimension 4600, running windows xp with sp 2. I have avast and ad-aware, and scan frequently. I did not expect to be told it was probably a virus. I scarcely ever blue screened before trying to change cards. Why would that set it off?

I have even begun to consider a short in the motherboard.

A reformat is nearly out of the question. I have lost much of the backup software for the comp.
So, I just installed Zone Alarm, and it hasn’t found anything out of the ordinary trying to connect to the internet. I was really hoping that would work.

I’m trying to set-up my PC to send and receive Faxes with Sky Netgear Broadband modem. The Fax Console says I have no modem installed – I DO!! If I use the ‘Add Hardware Wizard’ it tells me it cannot detect a modem. If I insert the software CD that came from Sky, it tells me it cannot detect the relevant software.

Help!!

i have installed the modem but i do not know how to configure it because the line come from the centeral phone!what should i do?

current set up:

Phone linephone faceplateasdl splittermodem 4 port router ethernet switchLan Pc’s
Note: Adsl splitterextention doubler, for 2 standard phone extention

1.VoIP phone4 port router ?
or
2.VoIP phoneethernet switch?
Second, I have a another PC with fax modem installed since adsl connection does not support data fax. My question is where to connect my pc fax modem?
It is posible to connect my pc fax modem to extention doubler as my dial-up connection for data fax?

after that we had a dsl connection
for some problems i had to install a new copy of windows (vista)
i used the dsl for about 20 days now
but when the dsl connection disconnects i want to use the dial up connection.it does not work why?
1)after installing a new copy of windows should i re -set up the fax modem?
2)i tried to do so but i didn’t find any .exe file in the cd which came with the modem, why?
3)by the way , after installing a new copy of operating system (windows) should i reinstall all the drivers of the pc or what?

It’s an ESS ES56H-PI data fax voice modem. Could anyone tell me what I should do before I install windows vista?
Well…actually I was just wondering if I could install vista anyway…and if I will have any major problems if the data fax voice modem didn’t work. I guess I didn’t make my question very clear…LOL.
I just don’t know what a data fax voice modem is used for.

I recently installed a new dell data fax modem to connect to the internet via dial-up. It dials and connects me to the internet fine with my original internet connection. But when I am on the line, the modem knocks me off the internet connection and keeps trying to dial a dell connection. I have tried repeatedly to delete / remove the connection that the dell puts in my internet connection, but it will keep coming back. I have xp home edition, and do not know how to remove this from my computer permanently to keep it from knocking me off and trying to connect to an unusable dell connection. CAN YOU HELP

Generic 56K HCF Data Fax Modem as i have that type of modem, and install window vista, but couldn’t find driver for the modem. Even though when i found the modem, but i can’t install because of the window vista. Anyone has same as I do. Can you show me how, where to get driver for the modem (operating system: vista)….thanks a lot…!

I don’t have a modem installed on my computer. Is there a way to do it over the internet, so when people send me a fax, it prints to a PDF file, etc. on my computer. I would also like to be able to send faxes to people directly from my computer. How do I set this up? I have Verizon phone service and DSL.

Hi, I just got this HP with windows vista home premium, which is a
huge mistake, as I later found out that there is no microsoft fax
software installed like the XP version. I went ahead to download the
Delrina Winfax Lite freeware from the web and installed it on my vista
machine. However, my fax modem is using COM8 port and the winfax lite
freeware can only do com1,2, 3, 4. Somehow this software can not go
beyond the com4. I wonder if anyone has the same problem or has some
suggestions to this problem? Thanks!

I am using conexant modem for dial-up connection which windows xp can not detect it without a driver installed, but when connecting the modem makes a nonstop loud sound after the connection. The modem is detected as generic softk56 Data fax. Do you know how I can get rid of this sound?
Thanks

I have installed the modem but i can not receive the fax
