You have to remember the basic fact that fax machines use regular phone lines to transmit and receive faxes. Which means that if you have a fax machine AND you have DSL, the fax machine needs to have access to the phone line itself.
So here is what you do, first you need to get a phone cable (the regular smaller size RJ11 like the one that goes into your phone, NOT the bigger DSL size called RJ45 or ethernet networking cables). If you have DSL, then surely you are using filters on your phone wall jacks. The filters say phone and DSL on them and they seperate the signal. The phone connects to the phone and the DSL connects to the modem. For the fax machine, you need to use the phone side of the filter.
I don’t know how many wall jacks you have in your home but I am assuming that you have one the same room and it is available (otherwise it gets a bit more complicated). Take a filter. Put it in the empty wall jack. The DSL side of the filter connects to the DSL modem. The phone side of the filter connects to the fax machine.
I am also assuming that you want to use the printer as a fax machine itself. You don’t want to use the computer itself for faxes. If you want to do that, then you simply plug the cable into your computer instead of the 4in1 printer. The tower itself should have the connection available because they are not exactly extinct yet. If you don’t have that, then you are going to have to get a modem.
I know it sounds pretty horrible but its really not that bad.
