HELP! My internet connection allows access without password.?
I have a HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP (COM3) to connect to a dial-up connection for my kids to use. My kids need to be able to use my computer, but I only want them to use the dial-up connection when I enter the password and monitor their use. I cannot get the connection to require a password.
When I set up the connection, I did not enter a username or password, just the phone #. But somehow it knows my computer on the network and logs on without any more info. Then I have tried deleting the number in the properties dialog so I have to reenter #.
I don’t have to fill in the password box-or even my username, it connects without putting anything in. I do not have the "Save this username and password" box checked.
In the properties window, I have checked the "prompt for name and password" option; under Security I have "Typical – Require secured password" and I have under Sharing, no options chosen to share anything.
Any ideas? Is this the SmartCard or network?

you have two ways to go about this…
(1) go into properties set it up to — Not to auto connect — then put a password in
(2) Delete the dial up connection then reinstall it again
from there you can set it up to enter a user name and password.
On dial up the user name is usually your e-mail address with the Internet Service Provider. and normally your e-mail password .. again you need to set it up so that it does not auto connect.. every time you boot the computer up…
if you have problems the contact your ISP help line and they will walk you through the secure setup
