How can I receive a fax on a phone line without being present to answer the phone?
My fax machine is hooked up to the same line as my phone… ie. they share a phone line. Is there a way to set my fax machine to identify and receive faxes without me being present to answer the phone? I have my voicemail set up on this line too, so I don’t want the fax machine to answer every call… just the faxes. Is there a way to make this happen or am I boned? Thanks.

It depends on your fax machine, most newer ones are capable of this feature. Check your manual for settings
Is this something you will need on a regular basis? If so, you may want to discuss a "Distinctive Ring" feature with your phone company. This is a different phone number assigned that you would give out as a fax number, it rings in on the same line as your voice service, but has a different ring. Fax machines for the past decade have been capable of discerning this ring and answering right away for your faxes. It shouldn’t cost more than $5-$10 per month for this feature.
