how do i configure my modem?
I recently changed computers & used a cd rom to install my modem onto the new computer but after 30 mins of being online, I am cut off all internet usage. I have adsl broadband, not dial up. I have to restart the computer everytime i want to get on the net & only have 30 mins of usage. I have spoken to my internet provider people (telstra, big pond, australia) & they say nothing is wrong on their end, it must be my pc. I have windows 98. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, xp would definatly be my prefered option, but I cannot afford to upgrade at this time nor can I afford to have an IT person come do it for me!!! I need to do it myself, but don’t know where to start!!!

If your computer is internet ready, you shouldn’t need the modem at all…
However, if you do need the modem, call your provider and ask them if they are using dhcp or static addresses. I believe the reason you keep getting kicked off is because your modem is pulling a static IP address. If this is the case, if you can find the IP address of your modem, it’s usually listed under Network Connections in the Control Panel. Log into your modem using the IP address given.
All you have to do at this point is pull up a web page (assuming you have internet access), type http://yourIPaddresshere. If the modem is working correctly, you can log in and change the settings from static to dhcp, and the modem should automatically pull an address for you.
Call your provider and ask them to walk you through it.
Also, an upgrade to XP wouldn’t be a bad idea.
u change ur operating system to Xp
