How to find out to whom a fax number belongs?
caller id shows the number faxing to us. tried to fax to them to stop faxing to our phone line. their number is always busy. this has been going on for months.

What may be happening is the other people entered your phone number into their fax machine in error, and they are not monitoring to see if it’s connectiong. Happens all the time.
You can try one of the sites that do reverse lookups for phone numbers, but I would bet it won’t show up. Most likely it’s a business, and they rarely publish more then their main phone number.
Call the phone company and explain what is happening. If you have to , request to chat with a supervisor. Remember, at this time you are NOT filing a complaint for harrassing phone calls…you are requesting assistance.
The phone company can get the information. They may not give it to you, but they can contact the customer of the fax and inform them they have a fax machine out-of-control.
If you can’t get the phone company to volunteer to assist you, then file a complaint. You will have to also contact the police department and get them involved.
Stupid, yes. But thanks to telephone deregulation that’s how the game gets played.
