How to receive a fax on my vista computer?
I hooked up an external modem with fax capabilities, hooked it up to my phone line, and ran the set-up wizard through "windows fax and scan". However, I’m not sure if it will work. Is there any way to test if I can receive faxes correctly? Additionall, is it ok if I don’t have a printer hooked up, will the fax just be received in "windows fax and scan" similiar to how e-mails are received? Thanks!

The easiest and cheapest way to fax a document using your computer is by using an internet faxing service. It allows you to send/receive faxes from your computer without having to install any special hardware or software or cables. All you need is your computer and internet. Plus, you can also test out their services for FREE for an entire month, check a review of the best internet faxing services at http://faxfromyourcomputer.com/ hope this info helps!
A good online fax website I’ve used is faxzero.com You can send a 2 page pdf for free, or up to 10 pages for $1.99.
Dial your landline from a mobile, see if the modem answers, that will give you a basic test.
The only way to test further is to get someone to send you a fax.
You only need a Voice modem and a PSTN line.
If you click, "send to" on your document, not to MS Word of course, but to Windows Fax, then …..that’s all you need to do.
A perty little window will pop up where you have to fill in the telephone number of the recipient.
Mission accompliced
