Windows (Microsoft) provides free software for sending a fax. It also includes a Fax Wizard so you can get your PC setup to send a fax the first time you run the program. The fax program is probably not installed initially.
If you have your WinXP CD, insert the CD in your drive (You may need to wait for the auto install program to begin, then click cancel to stop it). Then open Control Panel, click "Add/Remove Programs". When the list of installed programs appears, click the link on the left titled "Add/Remove Windows Components". Look in the list that appears and check the box for "Microsoft Fax". When you click OK, Windows will look for the fax software on your WinXP CD and install the program. The program will usually appear in your Programs Menu under Accessories/Communications.
Hope this helps.
I am saving this question for future reference, I have the same problem.
I think that you need a fax machine hooked up to the phone line which is in turn connected to the laptop. Sorry thats the best I can do for now. Elaborate please. I do know how to RECEIVE faxes though.
You need a software like Symantec’s WinFax. This installs a printer called Winfax. So when you need to send a fax. Type a document in Word etc. and select the print option and for the printer select the Winfax printer. This will then ask you for a fax number etc. and send out your document as a fax.
