I am in need of information on how to start a website for my business that has specific capabilities?
Hello All,
I have my own business that I feel real strong about. I need to get a Website for my business but I don know much about websites or how they are created. I have done research on the topic but nothing has satisfied my question or where to go to get what it is that I need. Basically, I need a website that has credit card/ checks transaction, as well as being capable to fax order requests. I need this website to allow me to process orders over the internet and for it to be capable of allowing my clients to make transaction over the phone. I need email to come with it, forums and blogs so I can provide answers to my clients question via internet, I also need to be capable of tracking voice mail. Does anyone know how I should go about getting this?
Recap:
Credit card/ check transaction via phone and internet
Faxing of orders to me
Allows me to process orders mailed and faxed
Email
Forum/blogs
Voice mail
I would like to be able to control everything in the above from my website instead of going to different places to track or process something. I need everything to be tracked and recorded for my records, such as orders, clients that are interested and so forth.
I welcome your advice because I need it, Thank You

This website should have all the things that you’re looking for. I’m sure that it can cash payments, emails, forums/blogs. But i’m not sure about the other things in your list.

This site gives you a free website, but you have to have there .webs bit in the web address. Or you can upgrade to have your own web address without the .webs bit.
I hope this helps =]
You are describing a classic content management system with an e-commerce focus.
There are dozens of great free tools for this, but they do require some skills to set up.
I recommend you hire a reputable web developer to help you set up your initial web site. You’ll be able to make decisions regarding the visual style, specific capabilities, and general site structure.
The developer would then build the basic site for you and give you access to change the content yourself.
Most CMS systems are easy enough that you can change your content in about the same way you entered this question (but you usually have a much more sophisticated editor available to you.)
There’s a couple things I would question if I were your developer.
First, I’d probably recommend that we outsource the actual credit card / payment options to a site like Paypal. They offer great tools for this work, and more importantly, you won’t want to be responsible for a database full of credit card numbers. If those numbers get leaked somehow, you’d be in a world of hurt.
Secondly, I’d encourage you to wean yourself off of dependency on faxing. Your system won’t be able to process faxed entries directly. They’ll have to be entered by hand.
If you have an online system, it would be best to use it as the primary way to get information.
You would still have access to everything in the adminstrative login to your site.
In essense, you run the site on a day-to-day basis (and can change any content you wish) but the developer sets it up for you.
Of course, you can learn how to do all this on your own, but if web development isn’t your primary interest (or a hobby you want to develop) hiring a pro is probably your smartest move.
You need 2 Phone lines for fax and regular phone service.
I recommend you use PayPal for all your Online Transactions.
I also recommend you create your own web site using something like Yahoo’s Geocities they furnish you with there service that inludes Domain Name, Web Hosting, and WYSIWYG Software, this stands for What You See Is What You Get, very simple to use and create your site.

After reviewing the above website… as you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. A domain name is a name you want to call your website (ex: http://www.yahoo.com). To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.

You need a web hosting service which supports online payments like, Master Card, Visa & PayPal. It is very important that your service be uptime. It means that you can access your account whenever you want to update your web pages, and your visitors can view your website whenever they type your website address. If your hosting service is not uptime it is real hell!
If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.

There you can reach the three reputable companies that are leaders in the E-commerce web hosting industry. They fulfill all your requirements to sell online or do/accept any online payments. By using each of them, everything you need for such a website is provided in one business Hosting Package.
Hope this helps.
