i am trying to find a free fax service. The ones i have found are for trial only. They ask for your card #.?
I would like to find a fax service that never charges anything to use the service. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Good luck! Try http://www.hylafax.org/content/Main_Page, it is open source (thus free) but I have never used it and I do not know if it will support your system and/or OS.
any time you are looking to free software, use the words open source in your search, i found this by searching google for open source fax…
they don’t have much coverage but you can send free faxes with http://www.tpc.int/ this one looks free too: http://netphone.tiscali.co.uk/ search for: fax email gateway.
