I just got wireless internet and im confused how to use the router wireless?
I know it sounds dumb but i just installed my D-link 524 wireless modem. Ok let me try to explain this I installed and the internet works obviously but what I want to do is try and place the modem in the middle of the house so I get a better reception but im confused at how to do this without losing connection with the adsl modem.
This is how its connected. The adsl modem is connected to the internet and it has a ethernet cable going to the d-link. My dlink has a ethernet cable going to my computer which i think is dead because it doesnt seem to be picked up although i could be wrong.
If i unhook both ethernet cables and have the wrouter wireless in the middle of the house does it connect with my other modem or how does it connect wireless its very confusing to me im only 15.
Im trying to connect my desktop which has wireless lan, my sony ps3, and my mums laptop. Please explain how I can transmit the signal wireless without ethernet cables if its possible?

Firstly, no matter what, you will be required to place your router where your modem is currently located. Most of the time, this is in an office. At my place, our wireless router sits in the middle part of the house, but At the highest point (we just got our new 802.11 Draft N router, YAY!) The way most ( if not all) home networks work is that there is a modem, whose output plugs directly into the router. All additional machines are connected via the ports on the back (this includes PS3, or other networking enabled device. The router cannot be connected wirelessly to the modem!
Your playstation is another story. In the theories of wi-fi, the ps3 should behave much like a laptop PC. If it has wi-fi, read the manual to set it up.
As for your desktop, if it’s nearby the router, use Ethernet cables and wire them together ( make sure that the computer isn’t plugged into the Internet in port). If it’s farther away, purchase a desktop adapter the same speed as your router, and hook it up that way.
Once all the hardware is in place, your PCs will tell you about connectivity in the network section of the control panel. Simply ask it to detect networks, and select yours.
Shortly? The router goes where the modem is, And everything needs to be wired via Ethernet cables, or have some sort of wireless card.
You need the router connected to the internet. The router transmits the wireless signal and you can also hook a computer, notebook or pc, up to it with a ethernet cable. This is a good idea to do with a pc since it will give you maximum speed unlike on a laptop. To hook the laptop up just go open up control panel and and then open up network connections. Double click on the wireless network connection and the click on display all wireless connections. Select your and enter the wep key. Make sure it matches EXACTLY! All done.
very confusing-very complicated frustrating.
Your service is ADSL which to me is via a phone line.
Have the company extend your incoming wire to whereever in the house you want to place the ADSL Modem which is the first piece of electronics needed.
Then hook the ADSL into your router which will then broadcast the internet signal from whereever it is placed.
Your computers then will have to have to have wireless cards either plugged in or built in to receive that signal and access the internet.
