Internet will not work on my computer but my cable modem is fine?
I bought a graphics card for my eMachines computer (Nvidia GeForce 9400 GT) and after I installed it, my internet stopped working suddenly (I’m at the library right now). I unplugged it to see if that was the problem, but it was still acting the same. I have an Adelphia (Time Warner) surfboard modem, checked the modem and it was fine, lights all on and everything. I even hooked it up to my Xbox 360 to see if it was something with the modem, and I was able to get on Live just fine. Which leads me to believe that the problem is something with the computer.
I went into "Phone and Modem Options" in the Control Panel, and saw that the current modem was "PCI Soft data fax modem with SmartCP". In the "Attached To" column, it said Not Attached. But I am not sure if it was like this before because I never needed to check.
Every time I open up Firefox, every page I attempt to enter says "Page Load Error". Pretty much the same thing with IE and every other browser I use. I turned the firewall on and off just to make sure, and nothing happened.
Usually, when I disconnect the internet cord between my modem and computer, I see an icon in the bottom right panel of the screen with a bubble that pops up saying something to the likes of "Internet disconnected" (can’t remember clearly). When I disconnected it after it stopped working, I never saw that.
Lastly, I went to "Network Connections", I think it is, in the control panel to see what connections might be there. There was nothing in there at all.
It just feels like something doesn’t detect my modem and it’s leaving me confused because I can’t find the source of the problem. What might be the problem and how can I get my internet back to normal?

Forget the modem on your PC. You need to make sure the Local Area Network Adapter on your PC is enabled. Go to control panel network connections, and make sure the Local Area Network connection is enabled. If you do not see it, then you probably need to load the driver for your ethernet local area network connection. the driver should be on the disks that came with your PC
