My internet connection allows access without password. HELP!!?
I have a HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP (COM3) to connect to a dial-up connection for my kids to use. My kids need to be able to use my computer, but I only want them to use the dial-up connection when I enter the password and monitor their use. I cannot get the connection to require a password.
When I set up the connection, I did not enter a username or password, just the phone #. But somehow it knows my computer on the network and logs on without any more info. Then I have tried deleting the number in the properties dialog so I have to reenter #.
I don’t have to fill in the password box-or even my username, it connects without putting anything in. I do not have the "Save this username and password" box checked.
In the properties window, I have checked the "prompt for name and password" option; under Security I have "Typical – Require secured password" and I have under Sharing, no options chosen to share anything.
Any ideas? Is this the SmartCard or network?

It could be that the dial-in ISP does not require a password, but that is rare.
Try this go into the Control Panel and click on Internet Options. Then click on the Connections tab. Click on your Dial-in account and click the Settings Tab. Delete your user name and password then click on the Properties tab and delete the phone number. Click OK.
You should now have to enter the Information in the dial-in box to connect.
