I was able to send and receive fax when I was using the dial up but now I can’t because I’m currently using DSL. I had followed instruction from Windows Fax capability and it requires to insert the Windows XP Professional CD-ROM. I don’t have it on hand because my Desktop was customized. Also, I have Lexmark 4300 Series All-in-One but it failed, no dial tone. I only have one phone line. BTW, I’m aware of eFax and other fax services online. What’s your best technical advice? Many thanks in advance.

I go into my lexmark sofeware and click send a fax, It scans
the fax on the scanner and I add my cover sheet.
I then put the persons name and fax number I’m sending it
to. I have another screen come up and tells me it is connecting
and I here the dial tone and ringing of the number and it sounds
like it’s going through and then after a few seconds it comes
back and said it failed connection. It sounds like it’s going to
work and then it doesn’t. Help

I am on broadband internet, with a al-in-one printer / fax .

After installing DSL, I can’t seem to send any faxes from my computer. When it dials, the error message shows: "No dial tone. The phone line is in use or not connected."

My phone line works fine, and I can manually dial out with no problem with DSL installed. I use Windows Xp Home Ed., 736 MB RAM,service pk 2, MSIE 7.0, Zonealarm firewall, Comodo antivirus program, etc. What do I need to do?

I have Verizon DSL and Phone service. My phone line plugs into my router (obviously) and the printer is USB from my pc. I have a dial tone using the phone for calls but not when trying to send or receive a fax. I have a Pixma MP150 3 in one printer and is compatible for scanning and printing fax’s. Is it in my phone line? It tries to send but always says there is an error and cannot complete the fax. I have called the Fax number on my phone and it is indeed a valid Fax number. I’m at a loss and Verizon "Help" had no resolution. Any Ideas out there?

I recently switched to comcast cable/internet/phone service and I seem to be having a problem using my brother printer for faxing. Before I use to be able to plug up the phone line directly into the printer and a line from the computer to the printer and fax. Now when I do this, I can’t even get a dial tone, I pressed the hook button on the fax machine and lo and behold I heard a radio station (this has never happened before). I am still able to print from the printer and I havent tried to download pics from the memory card slot which is on the printer to the computer yet, so I don’t know if that will be a problem or not!!!!! So with all this being said, I need to know how to hook up my brother mfc-420 cn printer/fax/copier with all of this new comcast equipment that’s now taking over my fax line? Thanks for your help

I installed Dell Classic Phone Tools software. It found the modem etc. Installed successfully..but when I try to send a fax, it won’t go through? It’s not getting a dial tone per message. But I know the number is correct as I called it from my phone. What am I missing?

I’m trying to install a Agere Win Modem. The Device manager recognizes it, but no matter what I try, it responds that there is no dial tone. It came with a driver disc(no help so far). I’ve searched for HOURS to find a driver that will work with my machine. I have a feeling that this one may come down to experience. I’m a bit of a geek myself so, yes, I’ve checked my connections etc.

Modem Specs(to the best of my knowledge):
Agere V.92 56k Data+Fax Modem Version 8.30
Lucent 1646 chipset(also referred to as Mars)
Current Driver V.8.30

PC Specs:
Dell Optiplex GX260
P4, 3.06GHz
Windows XP Pro / SP2(Updated)

I would like to be able to use the V.92 features especially MOH.
Modemsite.com claims to have drivers as a "Premium"(paid) service, but they’re the only ones I’ve found.
Ask for any details you need & I’ll try to post.
Hey Rocky, some good suggestions but still no dice. Using Hyper-terminal & a local #, it still tells me "no dial-tone" I know that there is, because all I’m doing is switching the phone cord between PCs(I disconnect from ISP each time) Searching net for "no dial tone v.92"(and similar variations)gets tons of results but none helpful. Here is a copy of the modem query log:

It sounds like a dumb question but I never tried and now Im trying to and it doesn’t work. Anyone help?
I don’t wish to send a fax to an email address, but want to send to a fax machine. But I get an error message saying it was unsuccessful, no dial tone. So looks like I DO need a phone line.

all the so called free faxes i have found want a credit card….does anyone know of a really free fax service that works?….like no credit card….:)
thanks pappy..i tried that….it didnt work…i have a home phone using a cable company….it said no dial tone…any ideas?

Whenever I try to send a fax through my lexmark printer it just says no dial tone. By the way I have a dsl internet connection.

I installed the fax component on my Windows XP, and it keeps saying there is no dial tone, but I have cable internet service. Do I need to connect my phone cord to my computer and send the faxes through the phone line or can a fax be sent through the cable internet connnection?

I hooked up the J3680 AIO printer for a friend. She will never, ever use the FAX but delighted to have the additional phone connection because she doesn’t have cordless phones so it gives her a phone near her computer.

My question is: If I set up the speed dials for her, can she use them to dial for a voice connection and NOT sending a fax?

The dial tone is fine and the printer phone rings & works when I dial it from my cell phone and when I use the numerical buttons on the printer to dial out. I just can’t figure out what to do to make the phone on the printer actually make a voice call once the number is in the window? The number just sits in the window and it does not dial.

This is a VOIP connection & I used a splitter at the wall for the router and the phone to the wall jack. The dial tone is fine. Just how the heck do you trigger the printer phone to dial out using speed dial? Or is speed dial only for fax usage?

What do you push to actually make the phone dial the speed dial number showing in the display?

I set up her cell phone on speed dial 01 just for a test but I could not figure out what button(s) to hit on the printer to make the call actually happen. I pressed speed dial and then I pressed "1" and the phone number was in the window but I have no idea how to actually ‘trigger’ the call. This would be to "talk" not to send a fax.

If the phone dials out and rings in, then it should all work??

Thank you in advance, Donna

I’m using an external fax modem(U.F.Robotics)… drivers are working correctly installed right according to device manager..when I try to connect to the internet it says no dial tone(ERROR #680)…but the computer b4 worked fine ,but it also had an internal modem too( I think)..this new computer is only set up for LAN?? WHAT DO I DO" The Phone line works fine. in Yahoo! Answers

, I bring up the invoice, then click print. When it brings up printer options I click Hewlett Packard Fax and click send. it then brings up the window to put the fax number in and i complete that all fine.

When i walk to the fax to check that the fax is going, I can see the fax trying to dial the recipients number. However then I get a message on my pc saying "no dial tone". There is a dial tone because when i walk to the fax machine and manually send a fax it works fine.

I am running XP, can anybody help with this problem?

Cheers

I have a HP 3150 LaserJet fax. It worked fine then all of a sudden I went to send a fax and it went into memory then stated " will send when phone is available". The phone is available, we did all the normal trouble shooters such as changed outlets, changed phone lines, put on a new line. Rebooted it and when it got rebooted it does all the test, one test is the fax test and when it does it, there is a dial tone. Not sure if getting the dial tone on the fax test means it is truely getting a dial tone but I assume it is. All phone lines used were fine. The copier and everything else works fine. Have not received faxes either.
