I send faxes via fax tools on my computer – do not have an independent fax machine. I do not know how to receive faxes. The software says to make sure fax tools is up (it is) and is set to receive mode (it is) but when my phone rings, it goes to my answering machine (those little irritating beeps) and then hangs up) and no fax is received. I think I know the problem but not sure. I do have a HP56 modem plugged in which I use to send faxes but my Internet server is FIOS. Maybe to receive I have to change the setup of the software to reflect Fios as the modem and not my HP56 modem. If so, I do not know how to do that. Any suggestions. Thanks.
Someone out there must know something about computer fax software. Please help!
And no commercials such as the first answer. That does not help me.
i tried to use windows fax software. the problem is if other part calls to send a fax page i don’t get any notification (alert like normal fax machine rings) from computer software even program says it’s online. i press the "receive fax" button and they are sending after i call them informing i’m ready to receive. what i want is, somewhere i had seen a program that rings automatically if smbd wants to send fax. tnx
btw, i need only to receive faxes, sending is not important..
btw, i’ve pc modem and already received some fax pages manually.
I purchased a MFP laser printer (Samsung SCX-4521F). It is attached to PC#1 via USB on a WIndows XP system. The manufacturer software installed a printer driver, a fax driver (just another printer driver), and scanner driver.
The PC#1 is able to print, fax, and scan to the MFP just fine, and the special installed software automatically opens to assist with the submission (ie. Samsung fax software auto opens to get additional details).
For PC#2 connected on the home network via a standard router, I figured i had to share PC#1′s printer, fax, and scanner to get access to the MFP. From PC#2 i added the network printers (MFP Printer and Fax from PC#1). Unfortunately i couldnt locate the scanner driver in the same way.
The good news is PC#2 can print just fine but faxing and scanning dont work. I receive a Fax or Scanner cant be found error. I went ahead and installed the manuf. software on PC#1 but no luck.
Any ideas on getting faxing and printing to work on PC#2 over network?
Using Win XP Home, What free software is best to use when faxing a MS Word doc from my computer without having to use my modem? If I use the built-in MS fax software, it will not send the fax unless I disconnect from the internet and allow it to dialup just to send the fax. Help please!
I have BVRP Classic Phone Tools, for years now I have been able to fax from my PC with no problem. Recently it has began acting strange… I used to scan multiple pages thru my all-in-one & choose the option "Fax using PC Modem" & when I was done scaning all the pages desired it would automatically roll over to my fax software, but it stopped doing that & I had to go in an scan all my documents to a folder then fax each on individually as an attachment rather than all together as on fax. I was going to do that this evening (fax 1 cover sheet, then 7 pages one-by-one) but when I went to fax the cover sheet & 1st page of all the faxes I got an error message "COMMUNICATIONS PORT UNAVAILABLE" Now I know this is refering to the modem in my computer, but everything is hooked up the exact way it has always been & when I troubleshoot everything says "device working properly" What could be wrong? When I try to query the modem it says there is a program using it & to close it before continuing,
but I don’t know what program could be tieing up the modem since the only on that uses it is my fax software & that will not even establish a connection. How can I find out what program is using the modem… Could it be blocking the fax machine from useing the modem & faxing? HELP PLEASE!!!
I figured it out. It was a cell phone cable I had plugged in the USB interupting the communication.
Still need help with he scanned pages not automatically rolling over to fax software.
Windows XP SP2 has a fax package but it is ridiculously complicated and almost impossible to use since it cannot be configured to send faxes manually. I used to use a fax software that has both the manual and automatic features but I doubt it if it is compatible with Windows XP.
