Why does the government and most companies still use fax instead of email when dealing with the public?
Seriously… Fax is outdated technology, and most people don’t have a fax machine in their house. But most people DO have scanners and access to internet. Still though, if you have to send paperwork in to the federal government, it has to be by snail mail or fax.. SO archaic! Most private companies are the same way. Why?
Wouldn’t it just be easier to allow people to scan and email their documents?

The thing is, in order to change and become more efficient, jobs are lost, people are laid off and senior officials would have to retrain from the ground up.
Just being able to fax in was a huge step in the right direction.
In Manhattan before the fax machine you could literally be killed by a bike or foot messenger when walking out of your building.
Then we had fax machines…next we had email…then we had online faxing like efax.
As digital signatures become more applicable you will see more agencies move over to it.
My suggestion is to get an online fax number so you CAN send them emails and they will be delivered to fax machines.
Let’s say the fax number is 202-565-1212 for an agency in Washington DC.
You would email 2025651212@efax.com.
I give you efax as an example. There are a ton of companies that offer this type of service.
Personally I use RingCentral and am happy with the service.
Because emailed documents can be copied and viewed without anybody finding out it happened. (Due to the way the internet works.)
It is much harder to do this to a fax.
This is being done to protect you from identity theft.

For the same reason it buys hammers for $200 or toilets for $3000 or thinks if it adds 40 million new people to medicare and medicade that it won’t cost anymore money. Governments are not self sustaining they produce no products and rely solely on flushing your money down the toilet. If they stopped using paper faxes and wound up not needing as much from you in taxes you might want your money back, and we know they don’t want that. So enjoy the faxes and outdated technology and keep voting in the same old incumbents whether they are democrats or republicans and I’m sure we will all be just dandy!
